Paul McBeth Foundation Expands in Africa with Project 6.3 in Ethiopia

The Paul McBeth Foundation (PMF) is proud to announce Project 6.3 – Ethiopia, continuing its rapid expansion across East Africa with the installation of two 18-hole disc golf courses in the country.
This project will introduce a new course at Gulele Botanical Gardens in Addis Ababa while also refurbishing and upgrading the existing course at Asossa University, bringing both locations up to a full 18-hole experience. Installation is planned for late July 2026.
With a population of over 6 million in Addis Ababa, this project will create new recreational opportunities for youth, families, and the broader community, while also strengthening disc golf access for university students in Asossa.
“This project represents another important step in expanding access to disc golf across Africa,” said PMF Executive Director Zachary Smith. “We’ve seen how the sport can bring people together and create opportunity, and we’re excited to continue building on that momentum in Ethiopia.”
The project is led locally by Yohannes Desalegn, who has been instrumental in growing disc golf in the country and was a participant in the African Disc Golf Summit in November 2025. Through that experience, Yohannes connected with leaders from across the continent and helped shape a vision for sustainable growth of the sport in Ethiopia.
“Disc golf has the potential to bring people together in a new and exciting way,” said Desalegn. “We are excited to introduce more people to the sport and create opportunities for young players and the community to grow with it.”
A key element of this project is sustainability. Baskets for the courses will be built locally in Ethiopia, creating a model for future course development in the country and reducing reliance on imported equipment.
Course design will be led by Israel Muwanguzi of Disc Golf Uganda, whose leadership has been instrumental in expanding disc golf across East Africa. His involvement ensures that both courses will be built with long-term playability and growth in mind.
The project is made possible through the support of Gold Sponsor, the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), whose continued commitment to global growth is helping bring disc golf to new regions around the world.
With Ethiopia joining a growing network of African disc golf communities, PMF continues to invest in long-term development across the continent.
By introducing disc golf to one of Africa’s largest cities while strengthening an existing university course, Project 6.3 is positioned to create lasting impact and serve as a foundation for continued growth in Ethiopia and beyond.
Stay tuned for updates as installation begins in the summer of 2026.
