Paul McBeth Foundation Announces Project 6.2 in Jamaica, Bringing First Permanent Disc Golf Courses to the Country

Two courses in Mandeville will serve the deaf community and local students

The Paul McBeth Foundation (PMF) today announced Project 6.2 in Mandeville, Jamaica, where two permanent disc golf courses will be installed in partnership with the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf (CCCD). The project marks the first time permanent disc golf courses will be established in Jamaica.

More than 70 million people worldwide are deaf or hard of hearing, including more than 7,000 in Jamaica. For many in the deaf community, access to inclusive recreational spaces can be limited. Disc golf, a sport that does not rely on verbal communication and can be played at any age or ability level, offers a uniquely accessible opportunity for connection, outdoor activity, and community building.

The initiative includes an 18-hole course at Jamaica Deaf Village, a residential community operated by CCCD, and a 9-hole course at a local school in downtown Mandeville. The 18-hole course will allow residents to walk directly from their homes onto the course, creating daily access to recreation in a setting designed to be welcoming for all.

“Disc golf is uniquely positioned to serve communities like Jamaica Deaf Village,” said PMF Executive Director Zachary Smith. “It doesn’t rely on verbal communication, it encourages outdoor activity and community interaction, and it can be played at any age or skill level. Our hope is that this becomes more than a course, that it becomes part of daily life for residents and a place where anyone in the surrounding community can come and enjoy healthy recreation.”

The announcement also comes as Jamaica continues recovering from a major hurricane that impacted the island last year. While the project is focused on expanding access to sport, PMF hopes the courses will also serve as spaces of renewal, not only restoring what may have been lost, but creating something lasting and positive for the future.

The courses were designed in October and are scheduled for installation in 2026. Both layouts emphasize beginner-friendly design and will include professional tee signage to support learning and long-term sustainability. CCCD residents and students have already been introduced to the sport, with expanded programming and structured play opportunities planned following installation.

Project 6.2 is made possible through key partnerships that reflect a shared commitment to expanding access to the sport. DiscStore.com joins PMF for the first time as a Gold Sponsor, providing the professional baskets that will anchor both courses for years to come. The Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) is a supporting sponsor, contributing financial assistance to help bring Jamaica’s first permanent disc golf installations to life. Together, these partners are helping ensure that accessibility and sustainability remain central to the project.

“At its core, this project reflects what the foundation exists to do,” Smith said. “We want everyone, regardless of geography, ability, or circumstance, to have access to disc golf. Partnering with CCCD allows us to serve a community where accessibility truly matters.”
